INTRODUCTION
Equine Theory Sessions are set up to build confidence when working with horses and to educate the rider/handler on safety.
Our goal is to have you complete these courses and be well rounded in the proper care and handling of the horse or pony.
The majority of work will be on the ground, not mounted. We will cater to different levels by offering easier exercises or more challenging exercises for the advanced rider.
AGENDA
- HOW TO: lunge, first aid wrap, first aid treatments, standing wrap, tack set up, recognize ailments & how to treat them, loading a horse for transport and wrapping legs when transporting, handling a high horse and when to call a vet.
- UNDERSTANDING: correct feed and dietary supplements, proper cleaning of equipment and set up.
- SHOW PREP: braiding, mane care, trimming and clipping.
- TACK TRUNK: necessities!
- BALANCE ON THE LUNGE: vaulting exercises ( taught by individual ability ON THE LUNGE LINE) to improve balance, strength and coordination.
- LECTURE TIME.
- Snacks and water will be provided.
All students wanting to be an apprentice or working student MUST take one of these courses.
